Amazon & Walmart Integration Requirements and Prerequisites

Written by Melanie

Before connecting Amazon or Walmart to ExportYourStore, make sure your seller accounts, business information, and product catalog are ready.

Both marketplaces have their own requirements for seller registration, product identifiers, listing approvals, and product information. Preparing these details in advance can help prevent integration issues, listing errors, and delays during the export process.

This guide explains what you need before getting started.

Important: Requirements may vary depending on your marketplace, country, product category, brand, and fulfillment method. Meeting the prerequisites does not automatically guarantee that Amazon or Walmart will approve your products for listing.

1. Active Seller Account — REQUIRED

Before connecting either marketplace, you must have an active seller account.

Amazon Seller Account

You need an active Amazon Seller Central account for the marketplace where you intend to sell.

Make sure you have the following information ready:

✅ Business name and business type

✅ Business registration details, where applicable

✅ Business address and contact information

✅ Full legal name and identification

✅ Government-issued ID and proof of address

✅ Bank account for receiving payments

✅ Internationally chargeable credit or debit card

✅ Tax information

✅ Accessible email address and phone number

Amazon may require additional identity verification, including document submission or video verification.

Walmart Seller Account

You must have an approved Walmart Marketplace seller account.

For Walmart Marketplace in the United States, prepare the following:

✅ Business Tax ID or Business License Number (SSN is not accepted)

✅ Documents verifying your business name and address

✅ Business entity information

✅ Personal identification

✅ History of marketplace or eCommerce experience

✅ A compatible payment provider or payout account

✅ A fulfillment solution that meets Walmart's requirements

Walmart reviews seller applications before granting access to the marketplace. Additional business information or verification documents may be requested.

2. Choose Your Target Marketplace

Before connecting your account, determine which marketplace you want to sell on.

Amazon

Examples of Amazon marketplaces include:

  • Amazon.com — United States

  • Amazon.ca — Canada

  • Amazon.co.uk — United Kingdom

  • Amazon.de — Germany

Requirements may differ between marketplaces, particularly for tax information, product compliance, shipping, and seller eligibility.

Walmart

Walmart Marketplace availability and seller eligibility depend on the country and marketplace program.

Make sure your business is eligible to sell in your intended Walmart marketplace and that you meet its business, fulfillment, and product requirements.

Tip: If you plan to sell internationally, check the applicable marketplace requirements before connecting your account.

3. Prepare Your Product Information

Before exporting products, make sure your source store contains accurate and complete product information.

For each product or variant, prepare the following whenever applicable:

✅ SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

✅ Product title

✅ Brand name

✅ Product description

✅ Product category and product type

✅ Manufacturer or part number, where applicable

✅ Valid UPC, EAN or GTIN

✅ Product images

✅ Product price

✅ Inventory quantity

✅ Product condition

✅ Product weight and dimensions

✅ Variant information (Size, Color, Style, etc.)

✅ Country of origin, where required

✅ Product compliance information, where applicable

Important: Having complete product information in Shopify or another source marketplace does not guarantee that all required Amazon or Walmart attributes are available.

Each marketplace has its own listing requirements. You may need to provide additional information or map your existing product attributes before exporting.

4. Product Identifiers — UPC, EAN, GTIN, and ASIN

Product identifiers are important when creating or matching listings on Amazon and Walmart.

Make sure you understand the difference:

  • SKU: Your internal inventory identifier used to manage products.

  • UPC: Universal Product Code, commonly used in the United States.

  • EAN: European Article Number, commonly used internationally.

  • GTIN: Global Trade Item Number, a family of product identification numbers.

  • ASIN: Amazon Standard Identification Number, Amazon's catalog identifier.

Amazon Product Identifiers

Before creating an Amazon listing, determine whether the product already exists in Amazon's catalog.

  • If the product already exists, identify and match the correct ASIN.

  • If the product is new, determine whether you have an acceptable product identifier.

  • If the product does not have a qualifying identifier, check whether it is eligible for a GTIN exemption.

Having an internal SKU alone does not replace the product identifier requirements.

Walmart Product Identifiers

Walmart generally requires products to have valid GTIN/UPC identifiers associated with GS1 Company Prefix Numbers.

Make sure your product identifiers are accurate and correspond to the correct products.

Tip: Do not use randomly generated barcodes or incorrect product identifiers. Incorrect identifiers can result in listing errors or product matching issues.

5. GTIN Exemption — Amazon Only, If Applicable

If your products do not have a UPC, EAN, or other qualifying product identifier, you may be eligible to apply for a GTIN exemption on Amazon.

Some eligible products may include:

  • Private-label products

  • Handmade products

  • Certain unbranded or Generic products

  • Product parts

  • Eligible bundles

Before applying, make sure:

✅ Your product does not have an applicable product identifier.

✅ Your product category is eligible.

✅ Your brand or publisher information is correct.

✅ You have the required product and packaging images.

✅ Your brand information matches the product and packaging.

Important: A GTIN exemption does not automatically grant approval to sell in restricted categories or brands. Separate approvals may still be required.

For Walmart, do not assume that Amazon's GTIN exemption applies. Check Walmart's own product identifier requirements.

6. Brand, Category, and Product Approvals

Some products and brands require additional approval before they can be listed.

Before exporting a large catalog, check whether your products are eligible for sale.

Amazon

Check the following:

✅ Category restrictions

✅ Brand restrictions

✅ Product-specific restrictions

✅ Required invoices or authorization documents

✅ Brand Registry requirements, where applicable

Amazon Brand Registry is not a universal requirement for opening a seller account. However, certain branded products and selling activities may have additional requirements.

Walmart

Check the following:

✅ Product eligibility

✅ Restricted or prohibited products

✅ Brand and intellectual property requirements

✅ Product documentation, where requested

✅ Applicable product compliance requirements

Both marketplaces have their own approval processes. ExportYourStore cannot override marketplace restrictions or guarantee approval.

7. Product Compliance and Documentation

Certain products require additional documentation before they can be listed.

Depending on the product and marketplace, this may include:

✅ Safety certificates

✅ Product test reports

✅ Regulatory certifications

✅ Manufacturer information

✅ Responsible-person information, where applicable

✅ Product labeling and packaging information

✅ Other category-specific compliance documents

Make sure your products comply with the applicable marketplace policies and local regulations.

Important: Amazon and Walmart may reject or restrict products that do not meet their compliance requirements.

8. Product Images and Listing Content

Your products should have clear, accurate, and marketplace-ready information.

Prepare the following:

✅ High-quality product images

✅ Accurate product titles

✅ Product descriptions

✅ Product features and bullet points

✅ Correct brand information

✅ Product identifiers

✅ Category-specific attributes

✅ Variant information

✅ Product dimensions and weight, where required

Do not assume that your existing product descriptions and images will automatically meet every marketplace requirement.

You may need to customize or map product information before exporting.

9. Product Variations

If your products have multiple variations, make sure the information is properly organized.

Common examples include:

  • Size

  • Color

  • Style

  • Material

  • Size and Color combinations

Prepare the following information:

✅ Parent product information, where applicable

✅ Individual child SKUs

Amazon and Walmart have their own rules for product variations. Related products cannot always be grouped into one variation family.

10. Fulfillment and Shipping Setup

Before making your products available for sale, decide how orders will be fulfilled.

Amazon

Amazon offers two main fulfillment methods:

FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon)

Amazon stores your inventory, processes orders, and handles shipping and much of the delivery process.

FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant)

You or your fulfillment provider store the inventory and handle order processing and shipping.

Before going live, prepare:

✅ Inventory location

✅ Handling time

✅ Shipping methods and rates

✅ Return address and return process

✅ Order processing procedures

✅ Tracking information

Walmart

Walmart sellers must have a fulfillment solution that meets its seller performance and delivery requirements.

Available fulfillment options include:

WFS (Walmart Fulfillment Services)

Walmart stores, picks, packs, and ships your products.

Seller-Fulfilled Orders

You or your fulfillment provider handle storage, order processing, shipping, and returns.

Make sure your shipping and return settings are configured in your Walmart Seller Center.

Important: Your fulfillment setup and marketplace shipping settings must be configured independently of your ExportYourStore integration.

11. Connect Your Marketplace Accounts to ExportYourStore

Once your seller accounts and product information are ready, you can proceed with the integration.

Before starting, make sure:

✅ You have access to your Amazon Seller Central account or Walmart Seller Center.

✅ Your seller account is active and approved.

After connecting your account, you can proceed with the relevant ExportYourStore setup, including category selection, feed configuration, and product export.

Important Disclaimer

ExportYourStore helps you prepare, customize, map, and transmit product information to supported marketplaces. Meeting the prerequisites does not guarantee that every product will be successfully listed.
